This week in HighPoint! your kids visited Israel. They discovered that sometimes when we disobey, we get punished.
This time we visited the “The Old City” of Jerusalem. It was like we went back in time! While we were there, we ran into Snapper one last time. He finally suffered some bad consequences for choosing to disobey the rules. He and Scoop faced a dangerous situation with animal poachers and could have been seriously injured by the rare leopard.
On top of that, they almost lost their jobs at National Topographic Magazine. We all mess up sometimes. We disobey and make other mistakes. When we do, we have to face the consequences. Sometimes someone offers us another chance, like National Topographic Magazine offered Snapper and Scoop another chance. God always offers us another chance to ask His forgiveness for our sins. But we still may have to face the consequences for what we have done. Why are there consequences when we mess up? God wants us to learn from our mistakes. If there were never any bad consequences to our actions, we probably wouldn’t learn to do things differently.
Our Bible story was “Moses Messes Up” (Numbers 20:1-13; Deuteronomy 32: 48-52; 34:1-12) Moses sinned when he hit a rock instead of speaking to it as God had told him. Because of his disobedience, Moses was not allowed to enter the Promised Land of Israel. Disobedience can have long term consequences. When we choose to obey God, we choose to avoid sin’s negative consequences. Even though God forgives our sins, we often have to live with the result of those sins.
Next week we are off to Ireland to learn about making every day choices.
Blessings!
